Kingdom of Thessaly
The Kingdom of Thessaly is the oldest nation in Argon and is located on a vast island east of the main continent. It is known for its philosophical and artistic traditions, producing some of the world's most renowned writers, musicians and thinkers.
Philosophy has always been at the heart of Thessalian culture. From the earliest days of the nation's history, great thinkers and philosophers have arisen to guide and inspire the people. The nation places a high value on intellectual pursuits and critical thinking, which is reflected in its educational system, which emphasizes the study of logic, ethics, metaphysics, and other philosophical subjects.
The arts are also highly prized in the Kingdom of Thessaly. From poetry and literature to sculpture and architecture, the nation has produced some of the finest works of art in the world. The Thessalian people believe that art has the power to elevate the human spirit and bring people together in a shared appreciation of beauty and creativity.
One of the most famous artistic traditions of the Kingdom of Thessaly is its theatre. The nation has a long and proud history of producing plays and dramas that explore the human condition and challenge the audience's assumptions and beliefs. Thessalian theatre is known for its complexity, use of symbolism, and ability to convey profound emotional truths.
The Kingdom of Thessaly is known for its commitment to peace and diplomacy. One way it promotes these values is by sending mediators around the world to help resolve conflicts during times of crises.
The Thessalian mediators are highly trained individuals who possess exceptional diplomatic skills and a deep understanding of the complex political and social issues that can arise during times of conflict. They are respected and trusted by leaders and communities worldwide, and their presence is often seen as a symbol of hope and a commitment to a peaceful resolution.
One of the unique aspects of the Kingdom of Thessaly is its suspicion of religions and magical powers. This suspicion has arisen due to the actions of their first ruler, the Despot, who abused his power and almost destroyed the world in his quest for domination. In response, the Kingdom of Thessaly established a rule preventing magic users from occupying a position of authority. It also promotes a culture of intellectualism and critical thinking, as the nation values reason and rationality over superstition and supernatural beliefs.
Despite its peaceful nature and commitment to diplomacy, the Kingdom of Thessaly has faced its share of challenges over the centuries. However, its history of resilience and determination has helped it overcome these challenges and thrive as a nation of thinkers and artists.
Presentation
The Kingdom’s strict rule against the use of magic only applies to those in a position of authority. However, the common people of Thessaly may still practise some minor forms of magic on an individual basis. For example, they may use alchemy to improve their equipment or to heal minor ailments. These practices are generally accepted, as they are not seen as a threat to the stability of the Kingdom.
Some follow the Old Ways and seek alliances with the Spirit Guardians that inhabit the natural world. They are primarily looking for protection for their household.
A unique organization called the Society of Celestial Truth has emerged in Thessaly following the fall of the Despot. The followers of this organization believe that magical power corrupts the mind, and that the only way to protect humanity is to identify and destroy the sources of magical corruption and threats. They see themselves as the guardians of truth and justice, and are willing to take extreme measures in order to protect Argon and its people.
An important custom practised in the Kingdom of Thessaly is a rite called the Revelation. This is a major event that takes place during significant celebrations, such as the summer solstice or the anniversary of the kingdom's founding.
During the Revelation, participants are encouraged to release the hold that secrets have on their minds by revealing them to others and releasing them. To do this, they write down an important secret on a slip of paper, which they then read aloud to the gathered crowd before burning the paper in a communal bonfire.
The act of publicly revealing one's secrets is seen as a way of cleansing the mind and freeing oneself from the burden of secrecy. Even minor transgressions that are revealed during the Revelation are forgiven, as the cleansing of the mind is considered more important than holding individuals accountable for their actions.
This tradition is deeply ingrained in the culture of Thessaly and is regarded as a way of fostering openness, honesty, and trust within the community. It is said that even the authorities turn a blind eye to petty crimes that are revealed during the Revelation, as they believe that the greater good is served by allowing people to release their secrets and start anew.
Even children in Thessaly are taught to prepare for the Revelation through a game called Liar. Played with at least three participants, the game involves a judge, a liar, and the remaining truthful players. The goal is for the judge to identify the liar through questioning, while the liar must always lie.
The game is intended to foster critical thinking skills and teach children the importance of honesty and openness. It is said that those who excel at the game are more likely to succeed in Thessaly's rigorous education system.
Rites and Beliefs
The traditional clothing of Thessaly is made of natural fibres such as wool, linen, cotton and silk. The garments are often loose-fitting and layered, allowing for ease of movement and comfort, for example, tunics such as peplos or chiton, and himation or chlamys.
Accessories are an important part of Thessalian fashion, with most people wearing jewellery made of gold, silver, and precious stones. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings are all common, with designs ranging from simple and elegant to intricate and ornate.
Sandals and boots are both common, with the type of shoe depending on the occasion and the weather.
Aesthetics
Thessaly's political system is designed to prevent any one person from gaining too much power and potentially abusing it. The system is rooted in the region's long history, with each of the three major cities having its Senate responsible for local decisions and governing its spheres of influence.
The Senate of Hios is responsible for military and hunting matters; the Senate of Thespurias for education and health; and the Senate of Massila for trade, commerce, and the economy.
By dividing the power among the cities, Thessaly ensures that no single senator or city can dominate the others, promoting balance and fairness in governance. This approach also encourages cooperation and compromise among the cities, as decisions affecting the entire kingdom require consensus among all three Senates, making the politics of Thessaly a slow and deliberate process. However, this system ensures that all citizens' voices are heard, and their needs and interests are represented.
There are specific requirements to become a citizen of any of the three cities and therefore hold a vote in the Senate:
In Hios, upon reaching the age of 16, one must serve in the military for four years to gain citizenship. After completing their military service, they can continue serving or pursue other career paths. If they choose to leave the military, they lose their status as a citizen and their vote in the Senate.
Massila's political structure is unique among the three cities, with the local Senate seats available for purchase. Each year, 100 seats are sold to the highest bidders, with the wealthiest families traditionally buying them and appointing a representative to serve in the Senate. However, in recent years, groups of middle-class merchants have formed cooperatives to buy seats together, challenging the traditional political power dynamics. The city uses the funds acquired by the Senate seat auction to finance the public services of the entire nation.
In Thespurias, citizenship is granted to those who graduate from one of its prestigious universities and continue to research and contribute to the betterment of the nation. The citizens of Thespurias are highly respected for their intellectual prowess and play a crucial role in the nation's diplomatic relations, with many of them trained in the art of negotiation and conflict resolution.
Organization
Black Sea Company: Our dearest allies; their ideal of freedom and their open-mindedness are remarkable. With our ideas and their fleet, we can temper and save Argon.
Cities of Sinai: Their commercial force is impressive, but their alchemy is disturbing. As long as they remain neutral, they will help maintain the balance between Albion and the Empire.
City of Septis: They are the threat that all see, but no one stops. They embody excess, recklessness, hubris.
Dai Shikai Teikoku: They are mad to kneel before this aberration of Dragon. With their fire, they will burn themselves, and probably the whole world.
Forest Folks: They are resourceful and skillful, and their druids have a beautiful relationship with nature. If only they weren't slaves to the ominous Guardians...
Inheritors Empire: Their corrupt government and their church sully the beautiful values of the people. They must reduce their zeal and put their guns away.
Kingdom of Albion: They are very noble in their ideals and their intentions. We will see them as friends as long as they accept our wisdom to guide them to a more peaceful Argon for all.
Union Kouznets: Since they adopted egalitarian politics, we see them as friends—hard-working, humble, resourceful and courageous people. The loss of their country is a great loss for the world.

The 3 Cities
The Kingdom of Thessaly has a rich and storied history that dates back over five thousand years, making it the oldest nation in Argon. In the early days of its foundation, the world was filled with multiple small nations and kingdoms.
Their first king, today known as the Despot, had grand ambitions of extending his dominion and bringing prosperity and order to the entire world. To achieve his goals, he sought to amass as much power as he possibly could and devoted himself to mastering every form of magic available at the time. He extended his life well beyond mortal years, thus gaining even more power with the passing of time. It seemed as though nothing could stop him.
As time went on, the Despot's behaviour became increasingly erratic and unstable. The people of Thessaly were deeply disturbed by his actions and knew that they had to act quickly to prevent him from causing any further harm.
It was during this tumultuous time that the Five Martyrs lost their lives. The exact circumstances surrounding their deaths have been lost to history, but it is widely believed that the Despot was responsible for their demise.
As news of this tragedy spread throughout the land, the people of Thessaly became increasingly wary of their king and began to seek support from other nations to stop him. This led to a series of wars that would last for decades, leaving the kingdom in a state of constant upheaval and turmoil.
The Despot met his fateful end during the Great Cataclysm, a massive astronomical event that remains shrouded in mystery to this day. In the wake of this catastrophe, the Society of Celestial Truth was founded by a group of Thessalians determined to ensure that no one would ever again amass such overwhelming power.
